The zodiac is a diagram used by astrologers to represent the positions of the planets and stars. The Chinese zodiac, or Sheng Xiao, is a repeating 12-year cycle of animal signs and their ascribed attributes, based on the lunar calendar. In order, the zodiac animals are: Rat, Ox, Tiger, Rabbit, Dragon, Snake, Horse, Goat, Monkey, Rooster, Dog, Pig.

n. 黃道帶，生肖

What’s your sign? In Western astrology, it’s a constellation determined by when your birthday falls in the calendar. But according to the Chinese zodiac, or shengxiao, it’s your shuxiang, meaning the animal assigned to your birth year. 

你是什么星座的? 在西方占星術(shù)中，它是一個由你的生日在日歷上的日期決定的星座。但根據(jù)中國的十二生肖，這是你的“屬相”，意味著你的出生年份。

古人認(rèn)為，人的性格及命運(yùn)與出生時的星象息息相關(guān)。那么，如何描述星象呢？ Zodiac （十二宮圖）就是一個描述星象的常用工具。

古代將太陽的運(yùn)行軌跡稱為“黃道”，將黃道劃分為等長的十二份，每一份稱為一宮，合成為“黃道十二宮”。

在每一個宮附近，差不多正好分布有一個星座，包括：白羊座、金牛座、巨蟹座、獅子座等等。

每個人出生時，太陽所處的宮位就是你的“星座”，由于這些星座大部分都是以動物命名的，所以希臘人管這些星座稱為zodiakos, 字面意思是“動物組成的環(huán)”，來源于詞根zoion（動物）。英語單詞zodiac和zoo都來源于這個詞根。
