The evening altogether passed off pleasantly to the whole family. Mrs. Bennet had seen her eldest daughter much admired by the Netherfield party. Mr. Bingley had danced with her twice, and she had been distinguished by his sisters. Jane was as much gratified by this, as her mother could be, though in a quieter way. Elizabeth felt Jane’s pleasure. Mary had heard herself mentioned to Miss Bingley as the most accomplished girl in the neighbourhood; and Catherine and Lydia had been fortunate enough to be never without partners, which was all that they had yet learnt to care for at a ball. They returned therefore in good spirits to Longbourn, the village where they lived, and of which they were the principal inhabitants. They found Mr. Bennet still up. With a book he was regardless of time; and on the present occasion he had a good deal of curiosity as to the event of an evening which had raised such splendid expectations. He had rather hoped that all his wife’s views on the stranger would be disappointed; but he soon found that he had a very different story to hear.
2. admired 詞性:動詞(過去分詞) 含義:贊賞;欽佩 用法:“much admired by the Netherfield party”,很受內(nèi)瑟菲爾德莊園的人贊賞。
His appointment was welcomed by Education Secretary Michael Gove who described him as a "distinguished, honourable" MP.

"The evening altogether passed off pleasantly to the whole family." passed off:進行;發(fā)生。 pleasantly:愉快地。 2. "Mrs. Bennet had seen her eldest daughter much admired by the Netherfield party." eldest daughter:大女兒。 admired by the Netherfield party:被內(nèi)瑟菲爾德莊園的人贊賞,"party"在這里指一群人。 3. "Mr. Bingley had danced with her twice, and she had been distinguished by his sisters." danced with her twice:與她共舞兩次。 distinguished by his sisters:被他的姐妹們特別關(guān)注,"distinguished",突出、顯著。 4. "Jane was as much gratified by this, as her mother could be, though in a quieter way." gratified:滿意的,欣慰的。 in a quieter way:以更平靜的方式。 5. "Elizabeth felt Jane’s pleasure." 6. "Mary had heard herself mentioned to Miss Bingley as the most accomplished girl in the neighbourhood;" accomplished:有才藝的,有教養(yǎng)的。 7. "and Catherine and Lydia had been fortunate enough to be never without partners, which was all that they had yet learnt to care for at a ball." fortunate enough:足夠幸運。 never without partners:從不缺少舞伴。 care for:關(guān)心,在意。 8. "They returned therefore in good spirits to Longbourn, the village where they lived, and of which they were the principal inhabitants." in good spirits:心情愉快。 9. "They found Mr. Bennet still up." still up:還沒睡。 10. "With a book he was regardless of time; and on the present occasion he had a good deal of curiosity as to the event of an evening which had raised such splendid expectations." regardless of time:不顧時間。
11. "He had rather hoped that all his wife’s views on the stranger would be disappointed; but he soon found that he had a very different story to hear." rather hoped:寧愿希望。 |
