A man hired a taxi outside the airfield（飛機場）. The cab had a woolen carpet with brilliant laces. On the glass partition（玻璃隔板） that shielded the driver's seat was a replica（仿制品） of a famous painting. Its windows were all clean.

一個人出了機場叫了一輛出租車。出租車上有個羊毛地毯，上面系著漂亮的絲帶。司機座位的玻璃防護罩上掛著一幅高仿名畫，整輛車窗明幾凈。

The passenger was very much surprise d and said to the driver, “I've never seen a nicer cab.” “Thank you for your praise,” the driver answered smilingly. “How did it occur to you to decorate your car?” asked the passenger.

這位乘客非常吃驚，他對司機說：“我從沒見過這么雅致的出租車?！?“謝謝您的鼓勵?！彼緳C笑著回答。 “您怎么會想到要裝飾自己的車呢？”乘客問。

“The car isn't mine,” said the driver. “It belongs to the company. I used to be a cleaner of cabs. When they returned, all of them were as dirty as garbage cans with cigarette butts（煙蒂） and rubbish scattered here and there.

“這車不是我的，”司機說，“是公司的。我過去是個出租車清潔工。他們出車回來的時候，所有的車都臟得跟垃圾桶似的，車?yán)镞€有煙蒂，垃圾扔得到處都是。

On the seats and door-handles could be found something sticky like peanut sauce or chewing gum. Why so? I thought if the car itself were very clean, the passengers would mostly likely be considerate（體諒的） and refrain（避免） from littering（亂丟垃圾）.”

座位和門把手上粘著花生醬或是口香糖之類黏糊糊的東西。為什么會這樣呢？我覺得如果車自身整潔的話，乘客不太可能沒眼色到處亂扔一氣?！?/p>

“So when I got a license to be a taxi-driver, I began to put my idea into practice — to tidy and decorate the car. Now before a new passenger gets in my car, I'd make a check and be sure it is in good order. When my car returns after a day's work, it always remains spotless.”

“所以，我拿到出租車營業(yè)執(zhí)照的時候，我就開始把這個想法落實到行動中來——把車打掃干凈并且裝飾一新?，F(xiàn)在，新乘客上車前，我都會檢查一番，確認車內(nèi)整潔。拉一天活兒收車的時候，車總是一塵不染。”

《論語·子路》中，孔子說“其身正，不令而行；其身不正，雖令不從”。
