Doctor suspended after pregnant woman jumps to death following denial of C-section in northwest China
A 26-year-old Chinese woman, surnamed Ma, jumped to her death from the fifth floor of a hospital in Yulin, a city in northwest China's Shaanxi province, following her request of getting a C-section, which was denied after hours of pain, on August 31, 2017.
It remains a question about who refused to do the C-section for the pregnant woman, whose baby was detected to have a bigger head than normal and vaginal delivery would be risky in her case.
Her husband said that he had agreed to his wife’s request immediately but a doctor checked Ma's condition and said she was going to give birth soon and did not need a C-section.
The hospital claimed that the family insisted on a natural birth even the hospital suggested a C-section just before the woman left the delivery room to commit suicide.
As the surveillance video is silent, details of the conversation cannot be confirmed.
The accident has gained nationwide attention and aroused heated discussions over whether the pregnant women should have the right to decide if she is to have a natural birth or C-section.
“產(chǎn)婦跳樓事件”追蹤：主治醫(yī)生被停職配合調(diào)查 8月31日晚8點左右，陜西省榆林市第一醫(yī)院綏德院區(qū)住院部5樓，一名待產(chǎn)孕婦從樓上墜下身亡。
9月3日，榆林市第一醫(yī)院綏德院區(qū)發(fā)表聲明稱，“產(chǎn)婦馬某在生產(chǎn)期間，因疼痛煩躁不安，多次強行離開待產(chǎn)室，向家屬要求剖宮產(chǎn)；主管醫(yī)生、助產(chǎn)士、科主任也向家屬提出剖宮產(chǎn)建議，均被家屬拒絕。最終，產(chǎn)婦因難忍疼痛，導致情緒失控跳樓。醫(yī)護人員及時予以搶救，但因傷勢過重，搶救無效。產(chǎn)婦跳樓身亡的根本原因與該院診療行為無關?！?/span>
而家屬一方并不認可這種說法。產(chǎn)婦的丈夫延先生說，“30日住院以后做的B超簽了一回單。當時醫(yī)生來了，看了以后說一切都好，正常。問我們選擇剖腹產(chǎn)還是順產(chǎn)，我問順產(chǎn)生不下來的情況下可不可以選擇剖腹產(chǎn)，他說可以。所以，我們首先選擇了順產(chǎn)。從8月31日早上8點多進去，她就一直在產(chǎn)房里，中途給送了兩次飯都沒見上。當時她出來后說疼，想要剖腹產(chǎn)。我就找醫(yī)生。當時醫(yī)生過來說再檢查一下看看。后來她說她疼得不行，堅持不了了，我再去找醫(yī)生，醫(yī)生的答案是馬上就生了，剖不成。”產(chǎn)婦的母親也說，醫(yī)護人員明確拒絕過產(chǎn)婦和家屬提出的剖宮產(chǎn)請求。
對于“究竟是誰拒絕剖宮產(chǎn)”一事，醫(yī)院出示了多份材料：
第一、產(chǎn)婦夫婦在產(chǎn)前簽署《產(chǎn)婦住院知情同意書》，簽字、按指紋確認順產(chǎn)意愿；
第二、《護理記錄單》記載產(chǎn)程中家屬3次拒絕的記錄，其中有這樣的內(nèi)容：“患者極不配合，要求剖宮產(chǎn)……家屬表示理解，拒絕手術”；“患者自行走出待產(chǎn)室……家屬仍拒絕手術”；“產(chǎn)婦仍堅決要求剖宮產(chǎn)，家屬仍拒絕手術”；
第三、院方公布了事發(fā)經(jīng)過的監(jiān)控畫面截圖。截圖畫面中，墜亡產(chǎn)婦曾3次走出待產(chǎn)室與家屬見面，其中有2次下蹲場景。醫(yī)院一位楊姓負責人稱，“那個女孩子走出病房，都向家屬跪下了，家屬還不同意?！?/span>
第四、一份授權委托書顯示，產(chǎn)婦簽署了《授權書》，授權其丈夫全權負責簽署一切相關文書，在她本人未撤回授權且未出現(xiàn)危及生命的緊急情況時，未獲得被授權人同意，醫(yī)院無權改變生產(chǎn)方式。
對此，家屬一方依然不認可。目前，圍繞此事的爭論仍在持續(xù)。
把一起個案化的悲劇，變成公共事件，進而誘使輿論分化本來脆弱的醫(yī)患關系、夫妻關系、婆媳關系。無論是家屬在撒謊，還是醫(yī)院沒有說實話，最終，有意或無意攪渾輿論的一方，都應該受到應有的譴責和懲罰。
