The Tomb of the Yellow Emperor is located in Huangling County, 150 kilometersnorthwest of Xi'an, the capital city of northwest China’s Shaanxi Province.
The Yellow Emperor, also known as Xuanyuan, was a famous tribal chief in the area ofthe middle and lower reaches of the Yellow River in remote antiquity, and was regardedas the ancestor of the Chinese nation by later generations. It was said that he wasburied at Mount Qiaoshan in this area.
Tradition holds that he reigned from 2697 to 2597 or 2696 to 2598 BC. His cult becameprominent in the late Warring States and early Han period, when he was portrayed asthe originator of the centralized state, a patron of esoteric arts, a cosmic ruler, and alord of the underworld.
Yellow Emperor has been regarded as the primogenitor of the Chinese nation togetherwith Emperor Yan, so the Chinese of later generations have claimed themselves as"Yanhuang Zisun (the offspring of the Yellow Emperor and Emperor Yan)".
Hence, the Tomb of the Yellow Emperor can be regarded as the spiritual home of theChinese nation.
